Thread The Needle Pose: Parsva Balasana

Parsva Balasana (or Thread the Needle in English terms) is derived from the combination of the Sanskrit words Parsva(revolved)bala(child) and asana (posture or pose).

This pose is easy to achieve yet it gets you so much spinal stretch that with each release you can immediately feel the tension eased from the back, great for desk bound office workers. Anyone can do this pose at home or anywhere with a few simple steps.

1. Start with child's pose

2. Lift your upper body up and reach both hands to the front of the yoga mat

3. Extend right arm up and literally thread it underneath across to your left side

4. Your right ear should be sleeping on the mat

5. Make sure the left arm is in a 90 degree angle up straight over your left ear
