Vegan Burger

Being vegan doesn't mean missing out on a good burger. There are many types of vegan or vegetarian burgers out there that has the "patty" creatively made to taste just like a regular burger patty except that it's meat free and dairy free.

This burger patty looks a little like a beef patty but it is actually made with black rice and black bean. The patty itself has so much spices and flavour packed in it that it tastes really good on its own. No sauces needed. Here's how to make this Vegan Burger:


- 1 small onion, chopped

- 1 cup cooked brown rice

- 1 cup breadcrumbs

- 2 cups canned black beans

- 1 tablespoon of chili powder

- 1 tsp salt 1 tsp cumin

- 2 tablespoons ketchup

- 2 tbsp vegetable oil

- 4 buns

- Salt & pepper

- Condiments: 1 avocado, half cup button mushrooms, 1 red bell pepper


1. Preheat oven to 350°F (176°C)

2. In a food processor, pulse onion, cooked rice, breadcrumbs, black beans, chili powder, salt, cumin and ketchup until well combined

3. Divide mixture into 4 portions and mould into the shape of regular burger patties

4. Place the patties on an oiled baking sheet and bake for 12 minutes, turn over the patties and continue for another 10 minutes 5. Slice the buns carefully into halves, warm them up in the oven 6. Condiments: chop avocado into thin slices, stir fry sliced button mushrooms and sliced red bell pepper with salt and pepper

7. Assemble the burger with the condiments on top of the patty, both sandwiched between the buns
